MAPS wins state PR award for communications materials

The Wisconsin School Public Relations Association (WSPRA) has presented the Merrill Area Public Schools with a 2010 Spectrum Award of Merit. The award recognizes the district’s efforts related to its new marketing materials.

The Spectrum Awards is a program recognizing Wisconsin school districts that develop special projects, particularly in the writing and design of print and electronic marketing materials. The Merrill Area Public Schools were awarded for a series of communications efforts, including the creation of a logo, a series of informational inserts about the district’s schools and services and posters that highlight the mission and vision of the district.

“The Merrill Area Public Schools is committed to ensuring ongoing communication with our community members, our students and our staff, in an effort to be transparent about the ways in which we are embracing opportunities and addressing challenges,” said Dr. Lisa Snyder, Superintendent. “This award is further indication that we are on the right track with these efforts and that we have become a model for other districts to follow.”

In addition to the marketing materials that were recognized by WSPRA, the district has also redesigned its website, started a blog, released a state of the district report, redesigned a finance report and launched a Facebook page. It has also sought new ways to more fully engage community members with the work of the school disrict.

“The strength of the Merrill Area Public Schools is directly related to its connection to the community,” said Snyder. “We will continue to improve our communications efforts in a way that effectively engages the public.”
