August 20

A resident in the 2100 block of River St. reported several yard decorations were taken and found destroyed.

Officers took a 25 year old male into custody for a probation violation in the 700 block of Woodbine Ave.

A pit bull attacked a mail carrier in the 400 block of E. 7th St., the mail carrier used the mail bag as a barrier and the dog bit the carrier bag. An officer responded and the pit bull charged the officer. The dog was immobilized with an Electronic Control Device (taser) and then ran into the residence. The owner of the dog was cited.

6:19 p.m.- officers responded to a domestic disturbance in which a male subject was reported to have attempted to run a women off the roadway. He was also under court order to not have contact with her. Officers responded and located the vehicle. Upon attempting to stop the male he sped off and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle was pursued at speeds up to 91 mph on Highway 64 West of Merrill. The vehicle turned around and came back into the city. Three attempts to use stop sticks to deflate the vehicle’s tires were avoided by the driver. He continued onto Cottage St. and onto Hillside Drive. The male was apprehended as he pulled into a residence on Airport Rd. and was taken to jail for charges of Felony Fleeing, Felony recklessly endangering safety, Disorderly Conduct (Domestic Abuse), Criminal Damage to Property, Bail jumping, and 4th offense felony OWI.

August 21

12:19 a.m.- officers were advised of an elderly woman roaming around lost. Officers located her and she was safely transported home.

1:02 a.m.- officers were advised of a fight outside of the 100 block of N. Prospect St., an 18 year old male reported to have been battered. Investigation continues.

A resident in the 100 block of W. 10th St. reported the front of his mailbox was torn off.

Officers responded to a citizen complaint of a possible intoxicated driver. Officers made contact with a 54 year old male and he was arrested for OWI 3rd offense.

August 22

2:56 a.m.- officers received a report of a possible intoxicated driver that ran over a curb in the 200 block of S. Genesee St., then ran over a metal pole. Investigation continues as officers did not locate the vehicle as of this time.

Officers have responded to many reports of people leaving their pets inside of their vehicles while going into stores, MPD would like to remind citizens it may only take minutes for injury to occur to an animal even with the windows cracked open.

Officers responded to a two vehicle crash. One driver was cited for failure to yield at uncontrolled intersection. No injuries.

August 23

7:57 a.m.- an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of E. 8th St. for a theft complaint. The reporting party told police that sometime between 5 p.m. on 8-22-10 and 7:30 a.m. the next morning, someone entered his unlocked truck parked behind his residence and took a wallet and some tobacco products. There are no suspects at this time.

11:29 a.m.- an officer was dispatched to the 200 block of E. 5th St. for a theft of aluminum ladder complaint. The reporting party told police that sometime between 8-2-10 and 8-21-10 someone cut the bike lock which held the ladder to a tree by his rental property. The ladders estimated worth was $400. At this time there is no suspect.

6:21 p.m.- an officer was dispatched to KWIK TRIP for a gas skip complaint. The officer was told by the clerk that at around 11 a.m. that day a vehicle left without paying for $34.89 worth of gas. A plate was obtained and more follow up to come.

8:24 p.m.- an officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle at the three way stop at W. Main St. and Grand Ave. squeal its tire and take off at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped and the 21 year old male driver identified. The male admitted to the poor driving and was cited for Disorderly Conduct with a Motor Vehicle.

August 24

12:35 a.m.- officers were dispatched to an anonymous complaint of a black male dressed all in black walking in the roadway in the 700 block of E. 2nd St. and the male appeared to be heavily intoxicated. Officers located a male party matching the description and found the male to be intoxicated and lost. The male party asked for a ride home and when officer were able to locate the residence of his sisters the 40 year old male was walked to a squad to be taken home. A pat down was conducted for weapons and drug paraphernalia and drugs were handed to police by the male party. The male party was taken into custody and charged with possession of THC, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance. After medical clearance, do to his high level of intoxication, the male was transported to jail without incident.

10:53 a.m.- officers were dispatched to the 500 block of East Street for a Domestic Disturbance. Officers were told by dispatch that the reporting party’s parents were having a verbal argument and her mother had called to get her out of the home. The daughter stated she could barely hear her mother over the yelling. When police arrived they had contact with the 51 year old male suspect in front of the house. When an officer tried to talk to the male party and keep him away from the house so another officer could talk with the 68 year old female party the male became upset not wanting the officer to get any closer. Officers explained they needed to talk with all involved and the male needed to stay away from the house. The male then ran to the porch and raised a shovel towards police. One officer was able to disarm the male who then ran into the home. Officers confronted the male party in the house and informed him he was under arrested and needed to stand up. The male party refused and resisted. The male was the tazed by an officer and taken into custody. He was charged with Disorderly Conduct and resisting an officer.

3:03 a.m.- officers were dispatched to a suspicious activity complaint in the 300 block of Blaine St. Officers were told by dispatch that the female reporting party was going out to her vehicle and found a male party half in her vehicle. The unknown male party was confronted by the complainant. The male took off on foot. Officers searched the area but the suspect was not found. This case is still under investigation.

6 p.m.- an officer took a walk in complaint of a theft at the Police Department. The complainant told the officer that sometime between 9 p.m. on 8-22-10 and 7 a.m. on 8-23-10 someone entered his unlocked truck in the back of his residence and took multiple items. The complainant said he found many of the items in his neighbor’s yard with his neighbor the next day. He was at the police department because an unknown party dropped off his wallet at the police department as a found item. The complainant told police that all his items were in his wallet and he was just missing his green IPOD and a radio transmitter that goes along with it. The total worth of the stolen property was approximately $230. There are no suspects at this time.

August 25

A large flat screen TV was reported stolen from a N. State St. residence. The occupant was gone for the weekend and returned to find the TV missing.

August 26

Cigarettes reported stolen from vehicles parked on E. 8th and N. Poplar sts.

A radio, vehicle title and $30 were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the municipal lot behind E. 1st St.

4:27 p.m.- A woman was cited for aggravated DC after she slapped a neighbor twice at their E. 2nd St. apartment building. The victim reported declined to go shopping with the suspect, which prompted the incidents.

August 27

12:37 a.m.- A sexual assault was reported to have occurred behind a West Side tavern. The suspect was located on the scene and was arrested on a probation hold, along with enough evidence to charge him with 2nd degree sexual assault. He was arrested and taken to jail where his actions earned him charges of DC and resisting.
