GNC foes skate past Hatchets
The Hatachet boys hockey team took a couple of tough losses on the chin last week, dropping a 5-4 contest to Waupaca on Thursday and falling 4-1 at Antigo on Saturday.
The Hatchets’ Jakob Panzer (A- Adam Russo, Kris Gaedtke) scored first on Thursday, with 4:31 gone in the first, but Waupaca ripped off three straight to open the second.
Panzer (A- Alex Ungerer, Russo) and Trevor Iwen (A- Chris Parker, Ungerer) tied it up with 11:44 and 16:18 gone in the frame. The Comets pushed it to 5-3 in the third, before Iwen (A- Ungerer, Parker) cut it down.
“The kids played a great game,” THS coach Jake Flohr said. “We just fell short. I can’t wait until we have the full team back.”
Saves–THS–Evan Russo 11-15-14–40. WHS–Zach Smith 9-10-13–32.
Red Robin rally
It was 1-1 with 4:24 gone in the first when Panzer (A- Iwen, Ungerer) converted a power play, but the Red Robins turned the tide with a short-handed score two minutes later. Antigo scored twice in the early-going of the third to sock it away.
“It was a closer game than the score shows,” Flohr said. “We missed on multiple opportunities.”

THS is 3-7 in the GNC (6-10 overall) while Waupaca is 7-3 and Antigo is 6-2.
