MHS duo earns Valley coaches’ respect
Merrill’s #1 doubles team in girls tennis earned All-Valley First Team honors in voting by conference coaches at the end of the season.
“Morgan and Jolene had an outstanding season at #1 doubles!” MHS coach Janet Thompson said. “They began the year with ten consecutive victories, and stayed strong throughout our WVC meets. They finished with an overall record of 16-7. These girls worked so well as a team. Morgan is so consistent at the baseline, and Jolene is very confident and aggressive at the net. As their coach, I was very proud of them and was glad to see their efforts rewarded with this honor.”
The conference awards were previously given based on ranking at the Valley Meet, but the coaches decided to weigh the entire season rather than rewarding large upsets. This was the first time for All-Valley voting in tennis.
