Fourth-quarter rally dooms Hatchets

Sept. 5, 2012 | 0 comments

The Hatchets were embroiled in an exciting football at Pittsville on Friday night, trailing the Panthers just 28-21 at the end of the third quarter.
But Pittsville turned up the heat in the fourth, scoring three unanswered touchdowns for a 50-21 triumph.
The Panthers had grabbed a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but Tomahawk cut it to 14-7 before it was oveer with a 7-yard Jake Borchardt run.
A 3-yard Borchardt blast and another PAT kick by Austin Ehn knotted it up at 14-14 in the second quarter. But David Sojka hit Eric Hahn with a 64-yard scoring pass before halftime, although a failed PAT made it 20-14.
The Hatchets took their first lead of the game at 21-20 when Lorne Ahrens dashed the final three yards and Ehn connected on another kick.
But it was all Pittsville from there. Sojka would pass for three more TD’s–on a night where he would complete 9-of-16 passes for 193 yards–and run for another from 23 yards.
Pacing the THS rushing attack were: Austin Bellile (12-79); Ahrens (11-73); Borchardt (9-38); and Adam FauFau (8-27). Bellile completed 7-of-15 passes for 86 yards, with Ahrens (4-48), Cale Graeber (2-19) and A.J. Bunce (1-19) hauling them in.
The Hatchets are 0-2 in the Marawood and 0-2 overall. Pittsville is 1-1 in both.
