Carol J. Floyd, 65, of Rib Lake, formerly of the Ogema area, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Memorial Health Center, Medford.
Carol was born Jan. 12, 1948 in Merrill to the late Albert E.P. and Lavila E. (Porath) Steckling. She was a 1966 graduate of Wausau High School. On Nov. 2, 1968, she married Kenneth A. Floyd at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in the Town of Maine. He preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 2011.
After school Carol worked at Tiny Tot in Merrill where she assembled baby cribs and met her husband. After her marriage she worked as a nurse’s aide at the Golden Living Center, Rib Lake for 15 years. Ken and Carol purchased and operated multiple taverns in Taylor County, where she was currently bartending at the Bird’s Nest in Rib Lake at the time of her death. She enjoyed babysitting, playing cards, gambling, feeding and watching the birds. Carol loved to socialize.
Carol is survived by her children, Michael (Laurie) Floyd of Ogema, Terry (Wendy) Floyd of Menomonee, Renea (Derrick) Sukow of Merrill, Theresa (Jon) Westberg of Prentice and Brian (Kristy) Floyd of Medford; son-in-law, Gene Graumann of Medford; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by sisters, Lorraine Steckling of Merrill, Joyce Teeples of Merrill, Julaine (Bob) Laak of Merrill and Audrey Steckling; and brothers-in-law, Robert Bauer of Merrill and Gary Floyd of Arizona. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Graumann in 2007; brother, Dale Steckling; and sister, Beverly Bauer.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Ice Age Pavilion in Rib Lake. The Rev. Dr. Bob Giese will officiate. Urnbearer will be Zander Floyd. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of services at the Ice Age Pavilion. Cremainal inurnment will take place at a later date in Lakeview Cemetery, Rib Lake.
