Edwin J. Kreis

Edwin J. Kreis, 86, Merrill, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, while in the care of Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1926 in Merrill, to the late Hermann and Agatha Kreis. Ed lived in Merrill all of his life, graduating from Merrill High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Ed loved the outdoors. As an avid deer hunter and fisherman he enjoyed spending time with his buddies. Ed enjoyed sporting events, including the Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Merrill Blue Jays. As a young man he played basketball and football for the Merrill Blue Jays and Merrill Foxes. Ed was a member of the Golden M Club, the Lincoln County Sports Club, and couples bowling league.
Ed married Carol Peterman of Merrill. Together they raised three children. They were blessed with five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Ed will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Sue (Jon) Koehler, Stevens Point; Jane (Andy) Ellis, Baraboo; son Jim (Kim) Kreis, Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, Scott and Brian Koehler, Kristin Ellis, Jason Younis, and Sean Wells; nine great-grandchildren; and special friend, Margaret English. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, and two brothers.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Waid Funeral Home, Merrill.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or to the Aspirus Hospice House, in Wausau.
