Elmer Showalter

Elmer Showalter, 92, of Gleason passed away at his home on Monday, October 22, 2012.
He was born May 28, 1920 in Harrisonburg, VA to the late Noah and Elisabeth Showalter.  Elmer was a member of the Gleason Mennonite Church.   He was a former board member on Rod and Staff publishers for many years.  Elmer was a pastor and had been active in missions spending  15 years in Paraguay, South America.  He was also talented in many trades.
Survivors include his six children, David (Mildred) Showalter of Gleason, Carol (Billy) Caudill of Leburn, Kentucky, Joy (David) Beachy of Athens, Glen (Rhoda Fern) Showalter of Halsey, Oregon, Mary Showalter of Gleason,  Jane (Nathan) Weber of New York, 55 grandchildren, 157 great grandchildren, and one brother, Omer Showalter of Harrisonburg, VA.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen on November 27, 2004, his daughter-in-law, Sandra Showalter, 3 grandsons and 1 great grandson.
Visitation will be at the Gleason Mennonite Church on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. and then at the Athens Mennonite Church from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Athens Mennonite Church.  Burial will be at the Athens Mennonite Church Cemetery.  Helke Funeral Home, Wausau is assisting the family with arrangements.
