Agnes (Winker) Miller

Oct. 15, 2012 | 0 comments

Agnes (Winker) Miller passed away October 14, 2012, at Golden Living Riverview, in Tomahawk.

She was born September 18, 1919, to the late Cornelius and Jenny (Knoll) Winker.  She grew up in Harrison and graduated high school in Tomahawk, WI.
Agnes Winker and Adam C. Miller were married on October 2, 1937 in the St. Augustine Church of Harrison.  Agnes joined Adam on his dairy farm located just north of Gleason where they were actively involved with the community.  Early in their marriage, they served on the local school board and later became foster grandparents in the local schools.  Agnes was busy with all types of volunteer work.  She headed the local 4H group known as the Rural Rockets.  As Sunday school teacher at St. John’s Church in Bloomville, she kept in contact with the younger generation.  Later, Agnes became a volunteer grandparent at Lincoln Hills.  She was very involved with the activities of the students there.  Her time at Lincoln Hills was a source of joy and pride for her.  It was while she was there that she received the governor’s award for volunteer work.
Agnes had a deep abiding faith and enjoyed life to the fullest.  Her greatest joy was in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved reading, doing puzzles, and playing card games.  Music was also a big part of her life.  Sharing her many talents, she often entertained people by singing while playing her guitar or piano.
Agnes is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Harold) Tesch, of Tomahawk, and Darlene (Kenneth) Smith, of Gleason; four grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Tesch, Timothy (Dawn) Tesch, Bradley (Jeni) Smith, and Hayley Graap; and eight great-grandchildren, Robbie Tesch, William Tesch, Austin Graap, Tanner Graap, Leah Tesch, Scott Welling, Nikki Welling, and Ryan Sanders Tesch; and extended family, Neil and Sally Tesch and their daughters Michele Fox and Jenny Smith.  Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Adam C. Miller, on December 25, 1992; and by her siblings.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 18, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Bloomville.  Father John Anderson will preside.  Burial will take place at a later date in Gleason Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the church.  The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the T.B. Scott Library or the Tomahawk Public Library.
