Robert O. Noel
Robert O. Noel, age 87, died Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Taylor Park Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rhinelander.
Robert was born September 7, 1925 in the Gleason area of Lincoln County, son of the late Edmund and Bertha (Haufe) Noel. He married Gloria D. Baumgart in October of 1947. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2007. Robert had been a rural mail carrier for the United State Postal Service. Robert had played football for the Merrill Foxes. He enjoyed flower gardening, caring for his birds, fly fishing and musky fishing, and loved nature. Robert served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, and had been stationed on the island of Iwo Jima.
Survivors include three daughters, Kristine (John) Lawrence, Ocean City, Maryland, and Julie Lemke and Lori Amans, both of Rhinelander; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Noel; his parents, Edmund and Bertha Noel; and two brothers, Milton and Sonny Noel.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 8, 2012, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Linda Kuhn will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Alzheimer’s Research.
