Merrill Child Care to close
Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center has announced it will close the Merrill Child Care and Early Learning Center as of June 15.
"We are extremely proud of the high quality child care and early education services that our staff has provided over the past 20-plus years to the Merrill community," said Ministry Good Samaritan President Kris McGarigle. McGarigle says the decision is necessary as a part of an effort to identify and retain key health care services for Ministry Good Samaritan which has been a fixture of the Merrill community since 1926.
"The challenges of delivering health care in our country are significant, especially for Critical Access Hospitals like Ministry Good Samaritan which are designed to provide life-saving services to rural areas," said McGarigle. "While we are saddened to end this chapter for families who have appreciated this valuable service, we know that it is necessary to preserve our key health care services for the Merrill community and beyond."
Student families were notified of the decision at a meeting on Feb. 16. Officials from Merrill Area Public Schools received notice of the non-renewal of the 4K program contract in early February.
"We remain committed to providing care for our existing families through June 15," said McGarigle. "We are also mindful that this will cause a significant impact on their lives and are hopeful that sharing this news at this time will provide as much time as possible for them to investigate and select other options for child care."
