Lincoln County Sheriff's Department reports
The Town of Corning Fire Department responded to a chimney fire on Monday morning. A resident in the 9000 block of Cranberry Trail called 911 just after 11:30 a.m. to report the fire. Firefighters were on the scene for less than an hour. No injuries were reported.
Deputies continue to investigate and are again looking for assistance after a second hanger was found broken into at the Tomahawk Airport. A seasonal resident went to check his hanger last Monday and found it had been broken into as well, most likely during the same burglary reported a week ago. Two planes inside of the hanger had an estimated 100 gallons of fuel taken from them, along with tools. Additional information from the first burglary includes the theft of numerous tools with brands including; Stanley, Craftsman, Dewalt and Chicago. Also stolen in the first burglary was an Ariens snow blower, a 21 gallon air compressor, and 120 gallons of fuel. The fuel stolen from both hangers is known as low lead fuel which best works in vehicles without a catalytic convertor. A 35 year old Schofield man was arrested Monday afternoon by the Everest Metro Police Department after the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office requested he be taken into custody on a felony charge of stalking. A Lincoln County deputy began his investigation in December after the victim reported David Matthew Hayes continually texted, emailed and called her. The deputy also received information from Hayes' former employer that he accessed the victim's confidential medical records while working in IT for the company. Hayes was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was held on the charge. After a bond hearing on Tuesday Hayes was released after he posted a $250 cash bond that was set by a Lincoln County Judge.
Two people were injured after a two car crash on Monday afternoon in the Town of Corning. Deputies along with Merrill EMS and the Town of Corning Fire Department and First Responders responded to State Rd. 107 and County Rd. Z after the crash was reported at 3:44 p.m. According to the deputies' report, 33 year old William D. Byrd of Medford was traveling north on State Rd. 107 and turned to go west onto County Rd. Z where it joins State Rd. 64. When Byrd turned he collided with a southbound SUV being driven by 33 year old Sara J. Faber of Athens. Both Faber and Byrd were transported by Merrill EMS to Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center for non-life threatening injuries. Byrd will receive citations for failing to yield and failure to fasten.
The Town of Pine River Fire Department was called out Tuesday afternoon after a resident on Bittersweet Lane reported their house filling with smoke. A deputy arrived on the scene minutes after the call was placed to 911 at noon, he found an issue with the fireplace in the home. Firefighters put out the fire in the fire place and cleaned the chimney, they were on the scene for about half an hour.
A 35 year old Merrill woman will be summoned into court on felony and misdemeanor charges after deputies responded to a welfare check in the Town of Merrill on Wednesday evening. Deputies determined the woman was too intoxicated to care for herself and took her into custody on an emergency detention. While at Ministry Good Samaritan the woman became combative and kicked one of the deputies. The woman was taken to the Health Care Center but will face charges of battery to a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and two counts of disorderly conduct.
Several agencies responded to Lake Nokomis late Friday night after cell 911 callers reported a recreation vehicle had broken through the ice. Just after 10 p.m. a caller reported the four wheeled LUV was sticking out of the ice off of County Rd. Y and the status of the occupant(s) was not known. Lincoln and Oneida county deputies along with Tomahawk Fire, Tomahawk EMS and Nokomis Fire Department all responded to the area. At about the same time a Wausau man called and reported his 18 year old daughter struck the machine while driving a snowmobile, she was injured but denied an ambulance. The machine was marked that evening and the rec-deputy met with the owner on Saturday morning to investigate the incident. The LUV was removed by a tow company, no citations were issued.
A 48 year old Kenosha man was injured after a snowmobile crash Saturday afternoon in the Town of Harrison. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office received a report of the crash on a trail near Cinder Road just after 2 p.m. Noel J. Ross was transported by Tomahawk EMS to Ministry St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
A 28 year old Merrill man escaped injury after rolling his truck in the Town of Corning on Saturday evening. Joseph R. Weckwerth was traveling on County Rd. M at South Branch Rd. when he rolled his truck. Weckwerth told the deputies he had swerved to miss a deer. Weckwerth was placed through field sobriety tests and as a result was cited for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was also cited for having an open intoxicant. He was later released to a responsible party.
A 47 year old Irma man was arrested Sunday evening after deputies responded to an ambulance call in the Town of Bradley. Tomahawk EMS arrived on the scene of the call and requested deputies at the County Rd. S tavern. Tracy L. Ellis had left the scene when a deputy arrived but he was taken into custody during a traffic stop on a vehicle he was a passenger in north of Irma a short time later. Ellis was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on a charge of disorderly conduct. He was able to post bond and was released later Sunday night.
