Hunter dies in woods near Gleason
On Saturday, Nov. 17, the Lincoln County 911 center was notified of a hunter who was found unresponsive in the woods in the Town of Russell outside of Gleason.
The cell 911 call reported the incident on Town Hall Rd north of Dudley Rd at 6:19 p.m. When the Town of Russell First Responders arrived on the scene they took over CPR from an off duty Everest Metro Police Officer who was the victim’s hunting companion. Rescue efforts were continued by Merrill Fire Department paramedics but the victim was pronounced dead at 7 p.m.
The victim was identified as 51-year-old Steven M. Jackson of Antigo. Jackson was the head of the Langlade County Forestry Department.
The cause of death is being investigated, but foul play is not suspected, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. The Town of Russell Fire Department assisted at the scene.
