Morning house fire
On Monday morning, Merrill firefighters responded to 504 E. 4th St. in the City of Merrill for a structure fire shortly after 7 a.m. after being notified by Lincoln County Dispatch.
Personnel arrived to find smoke showing from the 2nd floor of the residence, fire personnel were originally informed that there still may be individuals inside the structure, however, on arrival it was confirmed that all parties were safely out of the structure. Merrill fire personnel quickly entered the structure and extinguished the fire which was located on the second floor.
Merrill EMS personnel evaluated a patient on the scene; the patient refused transport, but was later transported by private auto to Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill.
Smoke and water damage was contained to the second floor of the residence. No other injuries were reported.
Firefighters believe a candle may have started the fire however the cause is still under investigation.
