On Saturday, May 12, at approximately 9:25 a.m., the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department was notified of a vehicle in the ditch along County Rd. H, near County Rd. A in the town of King.
U.S. Senator Herb Kohl's Regional Representative, Bryce Luchterhand, will be in Merrill on Tuesday, May 15 to meet with constituents from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Merrill City Hall, 1004 E. First St., in the Common Council Chambers. No appointment is necessary.
Aquatic invasive species (AIS) has been and continues to be a concern in the state of Wisconsin. Harmful species include Eurasian Water Milfoil, Curly Leaf Pondweed, Purple Loosestrife, Rusty Crayfish and the fish disease Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS). All of these species have the potential to choke lakes out, hinder recreational opportunities, lower property values and they can spread rapidly. With summer rapidly approaching, the potential for AIS spread comes with it. Many individuals and groups including lake associations, volunteer workers, and state, federal, and county employees put in countless hours stopping the spread of AIS.
The City of Merrill Common Council approved the reduction of the 35 MPH speed limit down to 25 MPH on E. Main Street from Memorial Drive, east to the intersection at Sturdevant Street. The reduction in the speed limit will take effect on June 1, 2012.
On April 28 at approximately 4:43 a.m., the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a call of a structure fire at W7318 Hwy. 86 in the town of Tomahawk. The fire started in a mattress in a bedroom on the second floor and was contained to the bedroom. Tomahawk Fire Department stated the cause of the fire was an un-extinguished cigarette.
