United Way annual campaign underway
The Merrill Area United Way was pleased to be the featured "Business of the Month" at River Valley Bank - Merrill in September. It supported the start of the annual United Way Campaign. The drawing held in conjunction with the RVB display produced three winners. The winners for the drawing and respective prizes are: $50 Chamber Cash - Elaine Kurtzweil, Merrill; fleece United Way blanket - Donna Stankowski, Merrill; United Way travel mug - Lillian MGurn, Merrill.
The early September, week-long efforts of Church Mutual Insurance Company and its generous employees provided a significant start to the campaign, raising $71,350. Other Merrill companies will be conducting employee campaigns during October and November.
United Way President, Jane Dehnel, reports the annual campaign/budget goal is $155,000 for the 2012-13 campaign; the same as in both 2011 and 2012. "Neighbors helping neighbors" is the theme this year. The funds support 19 programs in the Merrill Area.
United Way's focus remains committed to the three major impact areas of health, income/basic needs and education.
Dee Olsen, Executive Director, indicated that direct mailings have gone to 3,375 businesses, individuals, churches and organizations. She noted "United Way hasn't been able to reach everyone, but everyone can participate and support the efforts by sending a check to the Merrill Area United Way at P.O. Box 813, Merrill WI 54452. Contributions, large and small, help the people with difficult circumstances and families struggling through tough financial times."
A 2012-2013 campaign brochure can be requested via e-mail at united813@frontier.com. The campaign concludes Nov. 30, 2012. Contact United Way at 715-536-2016 with concerns. The office is staffed part-time, so please leave a voicemail.
