Schmelling named Youth Optimist of the Month
The youth Optimist chosen for the month of September is Garrett Schmelling, who was nominated by Mr. Scott Arneson and Mr. Craig Hoffman. Mr. Arneson writes that "Garrett's hard work ethic and dedication have led him to be very successful both academically and athletically. His natural leadership has helped place him at the head of many teams as well as many clubs." Mr. Hoffman states that "Garrett emulates the Optimist's Creed to its core. Garrett's enthusiasm in the activities I've seen him in include displaying cheerful countenance, caring and he promotes health, happiness and prosperity."
Garrett currently holds a 4.0 GPA and has taken such classes as AP Language & Composition, AP Statistics/Pre-calculus, AP Literature & Composition and AP Calculus. He has received Merrill Scholar Gold Medal and Wrestling Scholar Athlete Award the first three years of his high school career, and has received AP Scholar Award his junior year.
