Santa Claus is coming to Merrill
That's right kids, Santa Claus is coming to town on Dec. 1 and we need to welcome him in a big way! And there is no bigger way than with the Annual Lighted Christmas Parade sponsored by the Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce. The parade will be on Dec. 1 at 5 p.m.
The Merrill Chamber of Commerce is inviting area businesses and organizations to participate in their 22nd Annual Lighted Christmas Parade. A Merrill holiday tradition, the parade officially kicks-off the Christmas season with more than 70 lighted floats/units each year.
Being part of the parade is easy. Pick a Christmas theme and decorate your float with lights, music, decorations and costumes. The parade kicks off on Merrill's west side on the corner of South Genesee and West Main Streets and travels east on West Main/Polk Street/East Second/East First/Mill Street/East Main to the Lincoln County courthouse. Santa brings up the rear of the parade riding on a fire truck and will light up the courthouse trees immediately following the parade.
Just a few rules apply for the safety and enjoyment of all participants and spectators. (1) All parade units must be fully motorized, no walking is allowed for safety; (2) All units must "light up"; (3) There will only be one live Santa (the Chamber's) so we do not confuse the young ones; (4) Absolutely No candy or any other items can be thrown from moving entries along route because of liability issues; (5) Entries with horses must provide a copy of liability insurance to the Chamber; (6) Parade entrants may identify their unit with their business name, but are asked not to commercialize them with sales, specials or discount signs.
This is a high-spirited community event involving businesses, clubs, schools, church groups, choirs and organizations. The parade has no theme other than all entries must be holiday/Christmas related and light up. The parade is not judged, it is has been created for enjoyment purposes and is done in the holiday spirit.
To register your parade float or for more information on all Christmas activities contact the Merrill Chamber of Commerce at (715) 536-9474 or on the web at www.merrillchamber.org.
