Poetry rules library this weekend
This weekend is a great opportunity to hear and learn from an award winning poet, at T.B. Scott Free Library in Merrill.
Wisconsin Poet Laureate Bruce Dethlefsen will host a free discussion and poetry writing workshop on Saturday, Dec. 8 beginning at 1 p.m. Feel free to bring along poetry you are working on, or ideas and questions you'd like to ask the expert.
You'll have an opportunity to learn from Dethlefsen and other "unpublished authors" in your midst at Saturday's workshop.
On Sunday, Dec. 9 beginning at 1 p.m., enjoy Bruce reading his poetry in the library's Community Room. Afterwards, share your own work at an Open Mic for your own original poetry. Bruce will have collections of his work on hand for you to purchase and have autographed.
You're invited to take part in either Saturday or Sunday or both as part of the Words Worth Hearing program at T.B. Scott Library. Free cookies from Checkered Churn and coffee from First Street Coffee Station plus other refreshments will add to the enjoyment of exploring poetry together.
Bruce Dethlefsen, of Westfield, was appointed as Wisconsin's State Poet Laureate by Governor Jim Doyle, based on the recommendation of the Poet Laureate Commission of Wisconsin, after a highly competitive process. He has been published in numerous journals, has produced two collections of his work, and has had his work read by Garrison Keillor in the Writer's Almanac on Wisconsin Public Radio.
