Merrill native's artwork on display in Stevens Point gallery
The art works of Merrill native Ryan Weisenfeld are featured in an exhibit, "Reflections from the Wayside," on display through Oct. 4 at the Scarabocchio Art Museum, 800 Main St., Stevens Point. An artist reception will be held Friday, Sept. 21, from 6-8 p.m., offering the public an opportunity to view the works and speak with Weisenfeld.
Ryan is a 2006 graduate of Merrill High School, where he was involved in the accelerated art program. He is currently a senior at UW Stevens Point, majoring in Art with a 2D and 3D emphasis. This is his first solo art exhibition and he is only the second UWSP student to have his works featured at the Scarabocchio Art Museum.
The Reflections from the Wayside show is a combination of oil paintings, photographs and print-making. Ryan's works are primarily surrealistic, offering an alternative interpretation of society.
"Reflections from the Wayside came to my mind as being very interpretive of viewing issues from outside the norm," Ryan said.
Friday's reception is part of a larger community event in Stevens Point. Receptions are also being held at two other galleries, Gallery Q and the Riverfront Art Museum, that evening.
