Big Brother, Big Sisters needs 'bigs' in Merrill
The main components to my job are interviewing Bigs and Littles to find the best possible match and make sure the match is going well, by monitoring the match monthly by talking to all parties involved. However, the reality of my job is putting a smile on a child's face and giving them something to look forward to every week.
My goal in life has always been to work with children and make their lives better. I truly believe every child should be given the tools for success. The children of today are our future doctors, police officers and teachers; whatever their dreams may be, we should be there, supporting them the entire way.
Today Merrill has 30 School Based matches and 11 Community based matches. All of our matches in Merrill are strong, and we are blessed to have the most wonderful Bigs. Unfortunately, we have 54 children still waiting to be matched with either a Big Brother or Big Sister. Most of the children waiting for a Big are usually struggling emotionally or socially. Some are struggling academically, but all just need another positive role model in their life, to help support and encourage them to be all that is possible.
Big Brothers Big Sisters could not have the success we do without the support from the Merrill School District, Church Mutual and the rest of the community. The staff of the Merrill School District always takes the time to help and support our programming any way they can. Not only does Church Mutual provide some great Bigs, but they are also our biggest financial supporter. Big Brothers Big Sisters thanks you all for coming together and giving us continuous support towards our mission and helping support the children of our community.
SAVE THE DATE! Our annual Bowl for Kids Sake is going to be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Les and Jim's. Our theme this year is "Big Scare" so dig out your Halloween costumes, form a team, and help support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin by raising pledges and having a great time. Merrill should give itself a collective pat on the back for how well we did last year; Bowl For Kid's Sake 2012 raised $19,000. Looking forward, we have many businesses and community partners that may have not had a chance to participate, or aware of the opportunity. Let's make 2013 an even better year, with more participation and more support, let's show them what Merrill can do and how we do it.
I personally am a Community Based Big Sister. My experience is something one cannot put into words. I enjoy seeing the excitement on his face, the joy in his eyes. I would love to capture that excitement, put it in a greeting card and make someone else's day just as special as the time we share together. There are many heartfelt stories out there; ask any Big and I am sure they will be more than willing to share their story.
If you are interested in becoming a Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple or Big Family and beginning your own special story or donating to a great cause please contact me at 715-574-2398 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Not only do I thank you, but all the children that are matched and the children still waiting for their own special buddy thank you. After all that is why we do it, for the children.
