Aging & Disability Resource Center to offer Walk With Ease
Are you looking to walk more or stay active this summer? Do you want relief from arthritis pain? Starting Tuesday, May 21, the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Central Wisconsin (ADRC-CW) will offer the Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease class. The program teaches participants how to safely make physical activity part of their everyday life.
The evidence-based program is designed for people with or without arthritis. Based on research and tested programs in exercise science, behavior change and arthritis management, Walk With Ease is shown to increase balance, strength, and walking pace; reduce pain and discomfort of arthritis; improve overall health; and build confidence to be physically active.
Walk With Ease is a structured walking program that offers support, information and tools to help participants develop successful exercise routines. During the program, participants will learn proper stretching and pain management techniques, as well as building stamina and walking pace. The program can even be modified to meet the needs of individual participants so that each person can develop an exercise routine that fits their unique goals.
There is no fee for persons 60 and older and only $10 for those under 60. The six-week class will be led by certified Walk With Ease leader Cindy Wescott at SARA Park, 900 W. Somo Ave., Tomahawk. Classes will be every Tuesday and Thursday, May 21 through June 27, from 10–11 a.m. The program includes a Walk With Ease workbook and incentives. The book can be used for free through the lending library or purchased for $5 for those who want to keep it. For more information or to register before Friday, May 17, please call the Lincoln County ADRC-CW at 715-536-0311. Space is limited, so register early.
