Humane Society calendar contest winners
The Lincoln County Humane Society has announced winners of the 2013 Paw-Parazzi Calendar contest. Pet owners were invited to either submit a candid photo of their pet or schedule a session with Photography by Tina for a professional pet portrait. Winners were chosen by the number of votes each photo received via in-person voting at various events this summer that also raised money for the Humane Society. The Lincoln County Humane Society also received a donation of $575 from Photography by Tina at the Annual Banquet in October, representing a $25 donation from each of the professional portrait sessions completed as a part of this event in 2012.
The Lincoln County Humane Society Paw-Parazzi Calendar is a unique combination of professional pet portraits by Photography by Tina and candid pet portraits submitted by pet owners. Each month features one professional pet portrait along with an inset of three candid pet portraits.
The lucky winner of the professional portrait contest was Jeanne Heckman and her dog Baby. The grand prize was originally set to be a 16x20 canvas gallery wrap featuring the winning pet. When Jeanne was notified that Baby was the winner, she graciously declined the prize stating that she would prefer all funds be invested in the shelter instead of a prize for her. Photography by Tina donated a print of the shelter cat, Pilcher, to the shelter in Jeanne and Baby’s honor.
Out of 48 candid photos, Steve and Mariann Hanig’s dog Buddy received the highest number of votes. The candid winner was to receive a $50 gift card from Customer One Coop, but the Hanigs also declined their prize indicating that they would also prefer for the money to stay with the shelter.
“Tina Scott of Photography by Tina did an amazing job, both photographing the animals and setting up the calendar,” said Jeni Hinz, calendar coordinator and shelter volunteer. “Her approach to photography is very organic. She is able to get amazing shots while allowing the animals to be themselves. I have really enjoyed working with her and can’t wait to start the calendar for 2014.”
The 2013 Calendars are still available for purchase for a reduced price at the Lincoln County Humane Society and several local businesses including Photography by Tina and Blooming Wishes.
The theme for the 2014 calendar contest was also announced at the fall banquet. In keeping with the shelter’s desire to construct a new building, the theme will be “Occu-PAW-tions” featuring pets representing their owner’s favorite or personal occupation, all geared toward the theme of “Will Work for Shelter.” Professional portrait sessions for the new calendar will begin March 1, 2013. More information will be available soon online at furrrypets.com.
