Merrill’s new Veterans Memorial Garden project received a $350.00 boost from the Marathon and Lincoln County Veterans of Foreign Wars MAR-LIN Post 10203. Pictured left to right are John Adams, Alvin Steffenhagen, Mike Schuster, Steve Sabatke, LeRoy Fischer, Sheldon Voigt and Tim Hahn. This Major Veterans Memorial project is well underway, but still needs $18,000 to complete with the dignity it deserves. A unique feature of this memorial will be over 1,000 individual paver stones engraved with the names of local veterans. These stones will be permanently placed in the reflection area surrounding the monuments. Over 275 have already been sold. They are still available to any local veteran who has honorable served in any of the armed forces of the United States. These Memorial Pavers and this Memorial is not only for War Veterans, this is for every local citizen that served their country at any time in history. A non-profit charge of $50 is requested. More fundraiser efforts and a Memorial Day program are in the planning stages to make this memorial a reality.
