The expansion and renovation of the Lincoln County Courthouse got under way last week and by Monday afternoon, considerable progress had been made on the foundations of the addition. As part of the long-delayed project both court rooms will be remodeled, a third dedicated courtroom where the Clerk of Courts and County Clerk’s office was located will also be built. In the addition, holding cells and a dedicated elevator will be added that will allow prisoners to be taken to and from court appearances without mingling in the rotunda with the general public. Jury rooms will also be added to the courthouse that will also keep them sequestered from the public during recesses. The work is projected to be finished by March of 2011. In the meantime, all court operations are being held in the Lincoln County Service Center on Sales Street.
