Girl Scouts project benefits patients
Members of Junior Scout Troop 7147 recently completed a Bronze Award Project that will benefit pediatric patients at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill.
The group spent nearly 20 hours making comfort blankets that feature comforting stories, bible verses, personal notes and drawings.
Troop members chose the project in the aftermath of the April 10 Merrill tornado which destroyed or damaged numerous home.
"Many of us had friends or relatives who lived in areas that were devastated or damaged by the tornado," said troop leader Linda Semling Peterson. "That led to a discussion of how scared some of the children were during the storm and some of our troop recalled being scared when they were at the hospital and thought these blankets would bring comfort to those who spend time in the Emergency Department or are hospitalized at Ministry Good Samaritan."
The project features blankets of three different patterns where the girls learned to cut the strips and pull the material through to make a fringe border.
"These blankets are most appreciated and will bring comfort to families from our community during very difficult times," said Ministry Good Samaritan President Kris McGarigle.
