New MPD Officer

Aug. 29, 2012 | 0 comments

Merrill native Robert Caylor is his hometown's newest police officer. Caylor was sworn into duty with the Merrill Police Department Monday.

Robert, 26, is the son of the late Michael "Loopy" Caylor Sr., who retired after a long career with the Merrill Police Department. He passed away in 2009. Other members of the Caylor family also are working or are retired from local law enforcement.

Police Chief Ken Neff said Robert's joining the department is exciting because of the rich family history in law enforcement. He added that it is bittersweet that his father was not able to be there for the swearing in ceremony. Robert's mother, Kathy, was invited to pin the badge on her son's uniform.

Robert earned his associates degree in criminal justice in 2006 and completed recruit school in 2009. He has worked the last seven years as a paramedic with Tomahawk EMS. He has also worked for the past year as a part-time officer with the Phillips Police Department.

Robert said his intention has always been to work for the Merrill Police Department.

"I wanted to stay local," he said. "This is where my family is at, this will be my career."
