5th Annual Celebration of Life

This event is an opportunity to honor and show support for cancer survivors, their families, friends, and health care providers. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the lives of those no longer with us who lived life with courage and determination during their battle with cancer. This year’s guest speaker is cancer survivor Mary Brodhead. As an active walker and kayaker, Mary found the fatigue of chemo a daunting challenge, but she decided at diagnosis that she would not let cancer weaken her—and in the big picture, it didn’t. Thanks to daily walks and frequent trips to a fitness center to lift weights she surprised her medical team by staying remarkably fit through five months of treatment. She remains grateful that she was able to keep charge of her life in spite of cancer. Other activities will include a butterfly release, open house tours of the James Beck Cancer Center, announcement of the winners of the children’s butterfly coloring contest, and educational displays and support materials. Light refreshments will be served.
