Merrill Fire Department Open House

The Merrill Fire Department in cooperation with the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) plan to kick-off National Fire Prevention Week Oct. 9 -15 with their “Family Fire Safety Day – Open House”! The firefighters in Merrill invite all members of the public to come to their historic fire station #1 at 701 E. 1st St. in Merrill on Sunday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for numerous life safety tips, demonstrations, training and information. Kids, parents, grandparents and individuals of all ages and all walks of life will have a chance to view a working fire and EMS station, along with its equipment up close and personal. Hands- on activities will include a smoke house, extinguisher training on live fires, fire hose spraying, and an area to try on real fire gear. The firefighters will also have video displays and numerous informational handouts. The “Firepup” will be on hand throughout the event for pictures, high fives and at times other mischievous activities. Barbeques, hot dogs, bars, and refreshments will be served throughout the day as well. Everything is free.
