Ice Age Trail Fall Hike

Description:

The Northwoods Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance will conduct its annual fall hike in the Harrison Hills on Sept. 25 starting at 9:30 a.m. After a short hike to a point where several glacial features are in evidence, geologist Russ Werner will make a short presentation on how the last Wisconsin glacier molded the Harrison Hills region. At the top of Lookout Mountain the group will have lunch and discuss the biology/ecology of leaf coloration. You can climb the tower to observe the trees and glacial terrain for miles. The hike is about one and three quarter miles on a well established base, and is considered moderately difficult because of some steeper climbs. Hikers will meet at the trailhead on Hwy. B which is one mile off Hwy. 17, eight miles north of Gleason. Hikers are asked to bring a lunch. If you have questions, contact Herb Schotz by phone at 715-536-9392 or on line at haschotz@aol.com.
