With the fall election right around the corner Wisconsin Governor Patrick Lucey visited Merrill this past Thursday. The Governor had a hot lunch with the students at the Junior High, visited the new addition at Holy Cross Hospital, and stumped for assembly candidate Patrick Nugent while giving a speech at the Menard Junior College.

Livingston's Department Store in downtown Merrill is celebrating their 83rd anniversary with a sale. Special prices include: 25% off men's suits, 15% off of sport coats, and $1 off every men's dress and sport shirt.

The senior class play is coming along and four directors were named this past week. Mary Lechelt, Mrs. Marilyn Novack, Jay Tlusty and Mary Johler will be the directors. "Life With Father" will be presented November 9-11 in the senior high auditorium.

The Merrill Blue Jay football team lost a lopsided contest against the Antigo Red Robins 49-14 in front of an overflow crowd at Jay Stadium this past Saturday. The only bright spot of the game for the Jays was when Bruce Muschinske returned a kickoff for 90 yards for a touchdown. The Jays take on Rhinelander this Saturday and are hoping to go 7-2 on the season.

In what Merrill Police are describing as a large gathering, up to 20 youths between the ages of 14-17 will be cited for violating the cities liquor ordinance. The party was broken up at an east side home after police responded to a disturbance. An 18 year old Rhinelander man was also cited for furnishing alcohol to minors.

The Merrill Blue Jay volleyball team collected its third straight Wisconsin Valley Title. Over the weekend at the Wisconsin Valley Conference they swept through eight straight games to win their first ever conference tournament. The girls will head to Antigo next for their invitational before hosting the WIAA regional tournament at the field house.

The Guy's Shop is offering a four piece vested suit, 100% texturized polyester that includes two pairs of slacks for only $99.

The Merrill's Great Speaker Forum will feature Wisconsin's own Suzy Hamilton, a member of the 1992 United States Olympic Track and Field Team. Hamilton is a graduate of Steven's Point Area Senior High School and the University of Wisconsin Madison. She competed in the 1500 meter race at the Summer Olympic Games at Barcelona, Spain.

The Auto Stop will be holding its grand opening celebration at its new store in the Sixth Ward this week. Specials include Pepsi for $2.49 a twelve pack. Miller products for $5.99 a twelve pack, and cartons of Value and Quality cigarette's for $9.99 a carton.

The Blue Jay football team held Antigo close all game but long touchdown drives to open each half doomed the team during homecoming this past Saturday. The Blue Jays have lost five games this season with only a touchdown as the difference in the score.
