Two Merrill residents were arrested after a traffic stop early Tuesday morning resulted in a drug charge. A deputy stopped a vehicle on 1st Street near Mill Street in the City of Merrill just before 1:30 a.m. for an equipment violation. When the deputy was speaking with the driver of the vehicle, 22 year old William S. McCarl, he noticed a large bong - commonly used to smoke marijuana - sitting behind the driver's seat. McCarl was taken into custody on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. A passenger in the vehicle, 20 year old Kelly L. Ingersol, was arrested for violating the terms of her probation. McCarl was able to bond out later Tuesday morning after posting a cash bond. The Merrill Police Department assisted with the arrest.
One Minocqua man was cited and a second was arrested after a traffic stop Tuesday morning in the Town of Bradley. A deputy stopped a vehicle being driven by a 23 year old Minocqua man for a traffic violation just before 3 a.m. A check on the driver showed his driver's license was revoked and he had failed to install an ignition interlock device to check for alcohol as required by the court. The man was cited for operating after revocation and will have a criminal traffic charge sent to the court for the ignition interlock violation. A passenger in the vehicle, 27 year old Lee J. David, was found to have a warrant for his arrest through the Shawano County Sheriff for failing to pay child support. David was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was held until Tuesday afternoon when he was able to post cash bond and be released.
A 28 year old Reedsburg man was arrested late Tuesday night on a warrant charge after a traffic stop in the Town of Merrill. A deputy stopped Pedro V. Jacinto for speeding on US Hwy 51 near Lincoln Drive just before 11 p.m. A check showed Jacinto was wanted by the Rusk County Sheriff for failing to appear on a criminal traffic charge. Jacinto was taken into custody on the warrant and brought to the Lincoln County Jail. There he was cited for operating after suspension and speeding. Jacinto was released after posting a cash bond.
A 24 year old Minnesota man is in the Lincoln County Jail after a traffic stop resulted in a felony drug charge. At 1:20 a.m. Thursday a deputy stopped a vehicle being driven by Zachary P. Tschanz of Minneapolis on US Hwy 51 near County Rd V in the Town of Birch. When the deputy made contact with Tschanz he detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and soon saw marijuana residue in plain view. Tschanz was detained while deputies searched his vehicle; there they found numerous items of drug paraphernalia including a digital scale and several separate pre-packaged baggies of marijuana. Tschanz was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on a felony charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Due to the holiday Tschanz was held for a bond hearing on Monday.
Winter weather caused some problems on the roadways on Friday morning. Deputies were kept busy most of the morning investigating at least one slide off and two crashes. A 39 year old Merrill man suffered minor injuries after his vehicle left the roadway and rolled over on Pier Street near Lincoln Drive. He refused medical transport from the Merrill ambulance that responded to the scene.
Corning Firefighters were called out early Saturday morning after a woodpile caught fire at a residence. Just after 3 a.m. a 911 call reported the fire in the 8000 block of County Rd FF. When a deputy arrived on the scene he advised the fire was quite large and was threatening the home. Corning Firefighters requested assistance from the Hamburg Fire Department but canceled them after they were able to quickly knock down the flames. The homeowner told the deputy the outdoor wood burner had started their woodpile on fire earlier in the day but they thought they had put it out. When the fire re-kindled early in the morning they called 911 for assistance.
A 37 year old Merrill man was taken into custody Saturday afternoon for violating terms of his probation. Wisconsin Department of Corrections issued a warrant for the arrest of Bradley A. Brown after he violated terms of his electronic monitoring. When Brown was tracked via his GPS monitor to a laundry mat in the City of Merrill, deputies responded and took him into custody. Brown was brought to the Lincoln County Jail and held.
Deputies are seeking the public's assistance as they investigate a burglary at a Town of Scott tavern. At 3 p.m. on Saturday the owners of Weekend's Lounge at W7695 State Rd 64 & 107 reported finding items missing from the establishment. According to the deputy's report, a safe containing cash and a LCD Viore brand TV were taken during the break in. If you have any information on this crime or saw any suspicious activity around the Weekend Lounge during the early morning hours of Saturday you are asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at 715-536-6272. Callers may also call Crime Stoppers at 715-536-3726. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
Snow and slippery roadways caused problems Sunday morning. Deputies responded to about five crashes on the roadways and four slide-ins. Two people were reported to have received minor injuries after a one vehicle crash on Pier Street just north of Taylor Street. The vehicle spun out on the ice, left the roadway and struck a large round bale of hay. A deputy also stood by for over an hour on South Pine Rd in the Town of King after a town plow struck a power pole and brought the lines down onto the roadway.
Eleven deer crashes were reported this past week including one on Sunday that caused injury to a Wauwautosa man. The 30 year old man told a deputy he was driving south on US Hwy 51 north of Lincoln drive when a deer crashed into his driver's side door causing the window to shatter and leaving him with lacerations. The man refused medical care at the scene.
