Lincoln County Sheriff's reports
A 31 year old Merrill man remains in the Lincoln County Jail after he was arrested last Monday evening on numerous charges. Deputies went to a residence in the 3000 block of State Rd 17 in the Town of Merrill early Monday evening after a 911 call reported a disturbance. As deputies were speaking to the victim outside of the residence Aaron A. M. Baumann threw an entertainment center out of the patio window, smashing it. Deputies entered through the patio and attempted to take Baumann into custody, when he resisted their efforts and was tasered. Baumann was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, battery and a felony charge of strangulation or suffocation. Baumann remains jailed on a $2,000 cash bond that was set by a Lincoln County Judge and a probation hold.
A 21 year old Tomahawk man was taken into custody early Friday morning on a traffic charge after a cell 911 caller reported a reckless driver traveling north on US Hwy 51 in the Town of Merrill. At 3 a.m. a caller reported the vehicle traveling all over the roadway near County Rd C, a deputy found the vehicle just north of County Rd C parked on the side of the road where an off duty Merrill police officer had stopped and advised the deputy he watched it drive into the ditch. Dylan J. Koth was placed through field sobriety tests and as result of those tests he was taken into custody on a first offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was later released to a responsible party.
A hay bailer was destroyed by fire but a tractor was saved after Tomahawk and DNR firefighters responded to a field on fire Friday evening in the Town of Skanawan. At 5:55 p.m. a cell 911 call reported the fire in the 3000 block of County Rd H. A deputy was less than a mile away and when he arrived he found that a hay bailer had started on fire and the fire was spreading into the field. Firefighters were able to put out the fire which caused damage to a quarter of an acre. Firefighters were on the scene for a couple of hours, no injuries were reported.
A 21 year old Merrill man was arrested Friday evening on a probation violation charge. Deputies went to a tavern in the Town of Scott after receiving information that Anthony M. Rowe was there drinking in violation of his probation rules. Rowe was located in the establishment and admitted to drinking. He was brought to the Lincoln County Jail and held.
A 29 year old Tomahawk man is in the Lincoln County Jail after a deputy investigated a disturbance in the Town of Bradley. A cell 911 call at 9:44 a.m. reported a man breaking out windows of a vehicle at a residence at Country Courts. When the deputy arrived he found that William E. Schneider had already left the scene but before doing so he had smashed all of the windows out of a parked vehicle and went after two people with a lead pipe. Schneider was found riding his bike a short time later by a Tomahawk police officer and taken into custody. He was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with a felony count of criminal damage to property and misdemeanor counts of harassment and disorderly conduct. Schneider had a bond hearing Tuesday in Lincoln County Court.
At least two people received minor injuries after a two vehicle crash on County Rd K at US Hwy 51 Saturday morning. According to the deputy's report a vehicle being driven by 61 year old Wayne E. Lipper of Wausau was traveling north on County Rd K when a vehicle being driven by 60 year old Gary H. Thalin of Kimberly pulled out from a stop sign into its path. Thalin will be cited for failing to yield the right of way.
A 25 year old Tomahawk woman was injured after a motorcycle struck a deer Saturday evening in the Town of Birch. Laura J. Schiltz was a passenger on a motorcycle being operated by 41 old Corey R. Paupore on County Rd J east of County Rd H when the cycle struck a deer just before 9:30 p.m. Schiltz refused an ambulance but was transported by private auto to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A 22 year old Wausau woman was arrested early Sunday morning on a disorderly conduct charge after deputies responded to a disturbance in the Town of King. Just after 3 a.m. a cell 911 call reported the incident on Sandy Lane. Krystal R. Pleau was brought to the Lincoln County Jail and booked on the misdemeanor charge. She was later released after posting cash bond.
The Rec. Deputy reported a very busy holiday weekend on the waterways and recreation areas. Several complaints of ATV use in unlawful areas were investigated and while on patrol a couple of vehicles were found traveling on closed county lands. Also while conducting water patrol a few boaters were cited for not having proper amount of flotation devices onboard. A warning was given for late noise at one camp site at Otter Lake but for the most part the county campgrounds have been full and trouble free so far this holiday weekend. Late Saturday night the Rec. Deputy spotted extra vehicle traffic going onto County land near Parrish Rd and stopped an underage party before it started. Several citations were issued for transporting or having open intoxicants. Those gathered were also instructed to return during daylight hours to clean the area or face more citations.
Six people reported striking deer this past week, up slightly from last week's total.
