The Town of Pine River Fire Department was called out Monday evening after a fuel spill on State Rd 64. A 16 year old Tomahawk youth will be referred to juvenile authorities after a deputy discovered drug paraphernalia during a search. The deputy stopped to talk to the youth after he found him riding his bicycle without lights on State Rd 107 at Big Hill Rd just after midnight on Wednesday. The youth was told it was unsafe to operate his bike on the State highway without lights at that hour. The youth was later turned over to a responsible adult.
Scam artists still continue to prey on county residents and two county residents almost became potential victims this past week. On Monday a resident of the Town of Tomahawk was contacted and told that he was going to get a new Medicare card but he needed to provide his Social Security number and checking account number in order to process the order. On Thursday a Town of Merrill resident received a post card telling her she had won a $100 gift card for either Walmart or Target. When she called an 800 number to claim her "prize" she was instructed they needed a checking account number so they could deduct a processing fee. In both cases the victims provided their personal information to the scammers but quickly realized what they did and called the Sheriff's Office. Deputies were able to contact banks and get accounts closed before any damage was done. Help for victims is a phone call or a click away.
