Lincoln County Sheriff's Department reports

A 43 year old Milwaukee man was arrested early last Monday morning on a traffic charge. A deputy stopped a vehicle being driven by David R. Muchka on State Rd 86 near Sunset Point Rd in the Town of Tomahawk just before 1 a.m. After detecting the odor of an intoxicant, Muchka was placed through field sobriety tests before being taken into custody on a first offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicant. He was later released to a responsible party.

Tomahawk Fire along with Tomahawk EMS and deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover Wednesday morning in the Town of Bradley. Just before 6 a.m. a caller reported to 911 that he had found a vehicle rolled over and off into the woods on State Rd 107 at Herb Mitchell Rd. When emergency responders arrived on the scene they found no one at the crash which appeared to have occurred hours earlier. The owner of the vehicle was contacted but said he did not know why his vehicle was there but admitted to being at a tavern the night before. The investigation continues into the crash.

Deputies closed part of County Rd K in the Town of Merrill Wednesday afternoon after a small grass fire broke out. Callers reported the fire on the edge of County Rd K near Prairie Crest Lane at 1:30 p.m. When deputies arrived a few minutes later they found smoke blowing across the roadway. Firefighters from the Merrill Fire Department and the DNR were there for less than an hour.

A 44 year old Oshkosh man was arrested early Friday morning on a felony charge after leading a deputy on a short chase. Just after midnight the deputy was on US Hwy 8 near County Rd Y when he observed a west bound vehicle speeding. The deputy turned around to catch up to the vehicle and noted its speed had increased from 67 MPH to 87 MPH. When the deputy activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle the speeds increased to 98 MPH. The vehicle turned down Honey Rd a short distance later and turned off its headlamps but the deputy saw the brake lamps as the vehicle pulled into a cabin. Scott R. Knoblock admitted to the deputy he panicked when he saw the lights and turned off his headlamps before pulling into an unoccupied cabin. Knoblock was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with felony fleeing. At a bond hearing on Friday afternoon Knoblock was released from jail by a Lincoln County Judge on a signature bond.

Five teenagers ranging in age from 17 to 19 will be cited after the Rec. Deputy investigated possible trespassing on state land in the Town of Corning. Just after midnight Saturday morning the Rec. Deputy observed five vehicles parked on state land on Silver Fox Rd. All five teens cooperated and provided breath samples. The five went home with sober drivers or family members who were called to the scene.

The Rec. Deputy continues to investigate after finding the remnants of an underage drinking party in the Town of Harrison. A caller reported hearing loud music the evening before on Bruce Lake and when he went through the area in daylight found numerous beer cans and other items showing a large party was held. The Rec. Deputy was able to identify several suspects thanks to a time stamped receipt he found from an Antigo grocery store. All parties identified were from Antigo. Several of them returned and did extensive cleanup of the area. The Rec. Deputy will work with the Forestry Department to determine the consequences for those involved.

A Wausau woman was injured after a jetski crash on Lake Alexander Saturday evening. Deputies and EMS responded to Alexander Lake Rd after 40 year old Nerrisa A. Baumann was brought to the shore following the crash. According to the Rec. Deputy's report Nerrissa was operating a wave runner when she hit the wake from a boat causing the watercraft to lose control and ejecting her and a passenger from it. Baumann was transported to Ministry Good Samaritan by Merrill EMS where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries, she was cited for a first offense of operating a watercraft while intoxicated.

A 40 year old Tomahawk woman was taken into custody on a traffic charge. A deputy stopped to check on a vehicle parked in the ditch alongside County Rd CC near US Hwy 8 just after midnight. He found that the driver Nancy L. Neitzel smelled of alcohol and asked her to perform field sobriety tests. As a result of those tests she was taken into custody on a first offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. She was later released to a responsible party.

Seven people ranging in age from 15 to 20, most from Merrill, will be cited after deputies broke up an underage drinking party on County Rd FF early Sunday morning. Deputies were already in the area assisting Marathon County deputies after a car full of underage drinkers crashed down the road. All youths under the age of 18 were turned over to parents. A neighbor complaining of loud music brought deputies to the Town of Corning home.

Only four car deer crashes were reported this past week, but three bear crashes were reported. On Tuesday evening a bear was struck by a motorcycle on North Star Drive, the driver was not injured and the bear ran off. On Thursday evening a Merrill man struck a bear on US Hwy 51 near County Rd S south of Tomahawk, the vehicle was disabled in the crash. On Sunday a Merrill man struck a bear on County Rd Z near Corning Rd. The bear was killed but only minor damage was found on the vehicle.
