Motivated by a desire to preserve the serenity of a beautiful, no-motor lake and the opportunity to share something so precious, Mark and Irene Mehlos, Merrill residents since 1991, have pursued the dream of a small business, Knight Lake Serenity Cabins. With the help from friends and local talent and a goal of keeping the cozy northwoods feel, they have gradually remodeled 2 lovely and unique cabins on Knight Lake, a 14-acre glacial lake in Lincoln County, located just 10 minutes north of Merrill.

Visitors can enjoy weekly, seasonal cabin rentals from Saturday to Saturday available from May to Labor Day weekend. Weekend rentals are offered in fall or winter and at other times based on availability. Contact early if interested in renting by the month or summer season.

Cabin features include screen porches with gorgeous views of the undeveloped shoreline, living rooms with vaulted knotty pine ceilings, sky lights and a ceiling fan for cool breezes. Cabin rentals include use of a canoe, paddle boat or row boat, private dock and picnic table, fire pit and gas grill. Each cabin has one bedroom with additional sleeping space. The Hemlock Cabin comfortably sleeps 7 and features a large stone fireplace in the living room, and a wooded waterfront with swinging loveseat. The Lakeside cabin sleeps 4 and offers the option to add space for up to 5 in the Jayco pop-up camper on site. It features an outdoor fireplace and a picnic deck overhanging the lake, with private sand beach area and children’s slide. Both cabins have indoor plumbing with shower and eco-conscious composting toilets, fully-equipped kitchens and TV with local channels. Running water is available into October, although toilets function year round.
