Ministry Medical Group adds bariatric outreach services in Merrill

Sept. 12, 2012 | 0 comments

Ministry Health Care is pleased to announce that starting Sept. 24, Calvin Selwyn, Jr., MD, a laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon, will begin seeing patients the fourth Monday of each month at the Ministry Medical Group Clinic located on the 4th Floor of Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill.

Selwyn performs Bariatric Surgery at Ministry Saint Michaels Hospital in Stevens Point and his Merrill Clinic time will allow those interested in weight loss surgery to have their pre and post operative clinic appointments closer to home.

"This surgery is intended to improve your health," says Selwyn. "The process is lengthy, but the end result is a well informed, happier, healthier patient and I look forward to bringing these services to people in Merrill and Lincoln County."

Weight loss surgery can improve your quality of life as over one third of adults in American are obese. Many have tried unsuccessfully to lose excess weight. Bariatric surgery services provided by Ministry Medical Group offer a complete look at a person's health prior to surgery.

Dr. Selwyn and his team of skilled professionals, including nurses, psychologists, a registered dietitian and exercise specialist are proud to provide expert weight loss surgery and follow-up care in an environment where you can expect quality service, compassionate care and personal respect.

Eligible patients must have a body mass index of 35 or greater, a medical condition related to obesity such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes or other serious medical co-morbidities. They must also have documented failure of previous weight loss attempts.

After earning a bachelor's degree from Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, OK, Dr. Selwyn earned his medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He completed his surgical residency and chief residency at Marshfield Clinic/Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield and a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery and bariatric surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Ministry Medical Group will begin holding a monthly informational meeting on Bariatric Services in Merrill in October. The first session is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 22 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Hillview Room which is located on the 4th Floor of Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center. This is a free program, but advanced registration is requested.
