Eight injured in weekend motorcycle crashes

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to two separate motorcycle crashes over the weekend in the Tomahawk area that caused injuries to a total of eight riders.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash that occurred Friday evening in the Town of Bradley north of Tomahawk that left four people injured.

At 7:33 p.m. a Mercury Sable being operated by an 81-year-old Tomahawk woman was traveling south when she swerved to avoid a pickup truck that had stopped to turn onto Home Town Drive. When the woman swerved she entered the northbound lane of traffic and struck two motorcycles that were traveling north.

The two motorcycle drivers and their two passengers all suffered critical injuries. Three were transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital where they were flown to Aspirus Hospital and the Marshfield Medical Center. The fourth person was transported directly from the scene to the trauma center at Aspirus.

The injured included:
•A 49-year-old man from Clyman, WI – flown to Aspirus with critical injuries
•A 54-year-old woman from Fort Atkinson, WI– flown to Aspirus with critical injuries
•A 61-year-old man from Fort Atkinson, WI – flown to Marshfield Medical Center – serious injuries
•A 49-year-old woman from Fort Atkinson, WI – transported by ambulance to Aspirus with serious injuries

The driver of the car was not injured. None of the motorcycle occupants were wearing helmets.

Agencies responding included: Tomahawk EMS, Tomahawk Fire Department, Merrill Fire Department Ambulance, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, and helicopters from Spirit Medical Transport and Life Link 9 out of Marshfield.

On Saturday morning a crash involving three motorcycles caused injuries to four people, two of which were critical. The crash happened on County Rd. L north of County Rd. N in the Town of Bradley at 1:17 a.m.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, preliminary information is two motorcycles collided and crashed. As other bikes traveling in the area attempted to avoid the crash scene, a third motorcycle with two occupants struck a pickup truck who had stopped at the scene.

Three of the four were transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital before they were transported to the trauma center as Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

A fourth patient was transported directly from the scene to Aspirus.

Fog at the time prevented helicopters from flying.

Responding agencies included: Tomahawk EMS, Tomahawk Fire Department, Merrill Fire Department Ambulance, Oneida County Medic Four, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol who is handling the crash investigation.

County Rd. L was closed four five hours while the crash was investigated.
