Doo-Wah Riders kick off season of contrasts

For over 40 years, the Doo-Wah Riders have been riding their own patch of the musical range out West – this season we are bringing them to the Midwest. They’ll ride into Merrill on Tuesday, Sept. 18, appearing at the Merrill High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. to kick off the Merrill Area Concert Association’s 2018-2019 season.

One night after playing music at a friend’s house, Kenny Lee Benson and Lindy Rasmussen decided to put a band together just for “laughs” – the Doo-Wah Riders are still going strong.

There is no other country band like the Doo-Wah Riders. They possess an original sound characterized by high energy infused with a Cajun twist. Their performances display tight musicianship, and their unique arrangements have made them favorites everywhere they go.

Because the Doo-Wah Riders have been together so long, they’ve appeared in concert with literally every country legend you can name, and they’ve played backup for numerous country favorites too.

You might recognize the Doo-Wah Riders from their appearance in the movie “Basic Instinct” starring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone, where they were featured doing one of their own songs, “Glowing in the Ashes.”

Attendance at all Merrill Area Concert Association performances is open to members only, but we invite you to become a member! A season membership is really a great value because you can attend all the local MACA concerts, plus all of Antigo’s and Medford’s concert association performances as well. This concert season promises to expand your musical horizons, and every single performance will be distinctive!

While you can purchase a membership on concert night, it’s best to call in advance so you don’t miss a minute of entertainment. For more information, visit our website at www.merrillconcerts.org, email [email protected] or contact Meagan at 715-252-6295.
