On Thursday night the Merrill volleyball team traveled to D.C. Everest to take on conference foe Evergreens. The Jays would win in straight sets, taking the win in their first conference match of the year.
Merrill would take the first set by a score of 25-21, thanks to great energy by the players as coach Kris Krug explains, “We have been waiting for them to play with energy and excitement and tonight they did just that.”
Merrill then went on to win the second set 25-12 and the third set 25-13. Coach Krug added, “Tonight was our first conference match. It is always hard to play at DC Everest, but the girls came out confident right from the beginning and got the win.”
Merrill’s attacking was led by senior Elizabeth Iribarren who tallied 11 kills in the game. Megan Schroder would total nine of her own kills and Rylee Mrachek would round out the attacking with seven kills.
The Jays would have two 100% servers for the match, being sophomore Rachel Travis and senior Allison Tabor. Kelly Paige would serve at 91.7% rate for Merrill and Kaylee Bowe would have a rate of 90%.
Merrill will look to win their next conference match on Thursday as they host Wausau West at 7 p.m.
