Merrill Tennis gets underway with Wausau West meet

On Monday, Aug. 13, and Tuesday, Aug. 14 the Merrill girls tennis team had their season opening meet at Wausau West. Merrill would go up against five different teams and come out with wins against two of them.

In the first match against Minocqua/Lakeland High Schools, Merrill took the win by a score of 6-1. For singles play; Reilly Coon of Lakeland, defeated Alexandra Johnson of Merrill, 7-5, 6-3. Kamille Ament of Merrill beat Anna Maulson from Lakeland, 6-1, 6-1. Sierra Humphrey of Merrill took down Bailey Fox of Lakeland 6-1, 6-0. Amelia Skoviera of Merrill beat Isis Ramirez of Lakeland 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles competition, Erin Murray-Anna Rydeski of Merrill topped Hayley Fieck-Julie Neuberg from Lakeland 6-0, 6-1. Emma Jaeger-Molly Rydeski of Merrill beat Brie Nimsgern-Cierra Hayman of Lakeland 6-3, 6-3. Emma Jaeger-Molly Rydeski of Merrill defeated Brie Nimsgern-Cierra Hayman of Lakeland 6-3, 6-3.

Merrill falls to Menomonie

In Merrill’s second match against Menomonie, Merrill would lose 6-1, with Merrill’s only win coming in doubles from Emma Jaeger and Molly Rydeski who won their match by scores of 6-4, 1-6 and 10-6.
Other notable performance for Merrill include; Corinne O’dell of Menomonie who beat Amelia Skoviera of Merrill 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. Kenna Thomas-Jordyn Hagman of Menomonie beat Erin Murray-Anna Rydeski of Merrill 6-2, 7-5.

Altoona tops Bluejays

For Merrill’s third match they would face off against Altoona, and have similar results as the last match as Altoona took down the Jays 6-1. Merrill doubles partners Emma Jaeger and Molly Rydeski would get Merrill’s lone win again by scores of 6-2,6-1.

Jays fall short to Newman

Agasint Newman Merrill put up a good fight, but would eventually lose by a score of 5-2.
In singles play Merrill’s Amelia Skoviera, defeated Ruby Haupt of Newman 6-1, 6-1. For doubles the team of Emma Jaeger-Molly Rydeski continued to impress with another win against Anna Hakett-Desirae Lo of Newman 8-10, 7-5, 11-9.

Jays sweep Everest

In Merrill’s final match they would face their conference opponent D.C. Everest. Merrill would dominate the match, with every Merrill player getting the win.

In singles: Alexandra Johnson of Merrill beat Calista Fuehrer 6-1, 6-2; Amelia Skoviera of Merrill topped Kassaundra Fellner 6-2, 6-3; Kamille Ament of Merrill defeated Talyor Moermond 6-2, 6-4; Amelia Skoviera from Merrill beat Paige Ziarnik 6-0, 6-1.

For doubles play: Sierra Humphrey-Olivia Wheat, Merrill, defeated Lauren Coleman-Rachel Rae, 6-0, 6-3; Erin Murray-Anna Rydeski, Merrill, topped Alyssa Pederson-Ally Zimmerman 6-0, 6-1; Emma Jaeger-Molly Rydeski, Merrill, beat Lina Lee-Maddie Boregi 6-4, 6-3.

Merrill doubles pair of Emma Jaeger and Molly Rydeski went 5-0 in the meet, overcoming the 90 degree heat.
