Thirty years and more for Kamps at Trinity

A familiar face at Trinity Church and School is that of Miss Sallie Kamps, who is celebrating 30 years of teaching here in Merrill. She has also worked with youth for 35 years, both here in Merrill and in other locations.

Miss Kamps was inspired to become a teacher by her teachers at St. Peter’s Lutheran School in Hilbert, Wisconsin. She attended and graduated from Concordia University, Chicago, with a bachelor’s degree in education. Prior to arriving in Merrill in 1988, Miss Kamps taught students in a multi-grade classroom setting, working with students in first through fourth grade in Nokomis, Illinois.

Despite having taught for 37 years, she still expresses enjoyment in teaching because it changes daily. She says that she loves seeing eyes light up when suddenly a student “gets it.” Working at a Lutheran School, Miss Kamps is able to share her faith daily and talk about God and His love for everyone.

“While we cannot imagine Trinity without Miss Kamps, her plans for the future are to teach for a few more years, then enjoy traveling during her retirement,” said Trinity Principal Kathy Yahr. “Congratulations, Miss Kamps, on 30 years at Trinity and continued joy in serving!”
