Klug returns to Merrill Fire Department as new chief

The City of Merrill announced today the appointment of Joshua Klug as the city’s new Fire Chief.

Klug is a Merrill High School graduate and 11-year veteran of the Merrill Fire Department. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fire & Emergency Response Management from UW-Oshkosh. From 2013-2016, he served as Fire Chief in Mosinee, and from 2016 until present, he’s been the Deputy Fire Chief in Wausau.

The appointment was made after a nationwide search. Thirteen applications were received, and the field of candidates was narrowed down based on qualifications, and years of experience and education. The Merrill Police & Fire Commission met with the finalists last Wednesday to conduct interviews, and came to a decision that same night.

Klug is married with three children and coaches youth baseball, softball, wrestling and flag football. He is an elder of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill and exhibits a strong passion for his home community. He is excited to be coming back.
