Snowmobile ride fundraiser yields $1,000 for local food program

Last Friday, members of the Rock Island Xpress Snowmobile club donated $1,000 to the local ‘Food for Kids’ program.
Of the donated funds, $870 was raised during the first annual ‘Food for Kids Xpress Ride’ on Feb. 17. The Rock Island XPress club then donated another $130 to bring the donation to an even $1,000.  The event consisted of a poker run and snowmobile ride organized by the club, which spanned nearly 35 miles and included stops at five area establishments including The Beacon, Collins Bar, The Merrill Ice Drags, Northway Club and DAT Bar. Fifteen riders participated in the event, including members of the Devils Creek Stump Jumpers Snowmobile Club.

This is just perfect timing!” said Food for Kids program coordinator Beth Houle. “This donation, in addition to other donations will help us to continue the program through the month of April. We are very grateful!”

According to Rock Island Xpress president Robin Mittelsteadt, the club hopes to continue with events in support of Food for Kids in the future.
The Food for Kids program is overseen by St. Stephens United Church of Christ of Merrill.
