A 34-year-old Merrill man was arrested Tuesday morning on a criminal traffic charge. Deputies found the man on County Rd. C near County Rd. G after the man reported went in the ditch around 3 a.m. The driver was arrested for a second offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

A 19-year-old Merrill man was arrested Wednesday evening on drug charges after a report was received of a reckless driver. A deputy stopped the man after he exited US Hwy. 51 at State Rd. 64. When the deputy made contact with the vehicle he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from it. The driver was arrested on misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

A 17-year-old Tomahawk woman was arrested Friday after a traffic stop. A deputy stopped the car the woman was driving after it made a turn in front of the marked patrol unit and almost struck it. The driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license. She was arrested on a warrant through the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office for contempt of court and cited for operating while suspended.

A 49-year-old Marion man was arrested early Saturday morning for a criminal traffic offense. A deputy stopped the man for an equipment violation. The man showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody for a third offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

The Town of Russell Fire Department and a deputy responded on Saturday afternoon for a reported vehicle fire in the Town of Russell. Just before 1 p.m. a 911 call reported a vehicle on fire in the driveway at a home on Echo Lake Road. The homeowner was able to use snow to keep the fire at bay until firefighters arrived.

Deputies assisted a Town of Merrill man and prevented him from becoming a victim to a scam. The man was called and informed he won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes. The caller informed him that they were waiting in the Wausau area with his brand new car and $5 million but he had to get a pre-paid card from a local big box store in order to pay the $800 in taxes. Once again, you are reminded, anyone who calls you wanting you to get a pre-paid gift card in order to pay for something is trying to steal from you.

A 21-year-old Irma man was cited early Sunday morning after a traffic stop in the Town of Merrill. A deputy stopped the vehicle the man was driving for speeding at 2:37 a.m. After field sobriety tests the man was cited for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

The number of car deer crashes has decreased with only three being reported this past week.
