Pine River duplex a total loss

On Tuesday, Feb. 27, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office took a 911 call for a structure fire in the Town of Pine River. The fire was reported at N819 Grant Wood Court at 11:22 a.m.

When the 911 call was placed one side of the structure was already engulfed in flames and when a deputy arrived a short time later the building was already collapsing.

Firefighters from the Town of Pine River, City of Merrill, Town of Texas and Town of Russell responded to the fire. Firefighters were able to remove a nine month old puppy from the structure. Firefighters provided the dog emergency aid on the scene and a Pine River firefighter and Lincoln County Deputy took it to a nearby animal hospital but the dog was euthanized due to its injuries.

The duplex is a total loss. Firefighters are continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze but it does not appear to be suspicious. The American Red Cross provided aid to the two families who were displaced by the fire.

A Trooper from the Wisconsin State Patrol also assisted on the scene.
