Merrill Police reports

February 9
3:06 p.m.- An officer observed a vehicle spinning around in the high school parking lot. The driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license. He will be cited for operating after suspension.
10:12 p.m.- A store called after observing a male inside that was a suspect in a prior shoplifting case. Contact was made with the male and it was confirmed he was the suspect in a shoplifting earlier in the week. He was cited for retail theft.

February 10
1:54 p.m.- A crash was reported on E. 7th St. at Cleveland St. One driver was cited for failure to yield right of way at uncontrolled intersection.
5:12 p.m.- A caller reported the odor of marijuana coming from a residence. Officers could smell the odor as well upon arrival. One tenant admitted to smoking marijuana prior to officer’s arrival. He also stated he had paraphernalia in a closet. The officer observed additional marijuana inside as well as packaging and scales consistent with the sale of large quantities. The tenant refused consent to look inside of a safe in the closet where the rest of the paraphernalia had been located. A search warrant was obtained and officers located approximately 2.6 pounds of marijuana, cocaine and suspected LSD inside the safe. The tenant was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a drug trafficking dwelling.
11:37 p.m.- A caller reported underage people in a tavern. Officers made contact with a couple of younger males inside the establishment. One verbally identified himself claiming not to have a driver’s license or ID. The officer stepped outside to run the man through dispatch and it was found the man had lied and provided a false year of birth. He was found to be under the age of 21. The officer re-entered the tavern and the male had either fled from a rear door or was hiding inside. It was found he shared an address with the bartender who initially claimed she didn’t know him. The bartender was cited for allowing underage person in licensed premise. The bartender agreed to contact the male and have him make contact with the officer or he would face a criminal charge of obstructing an officer. He did make contact a short time later and was cited for underage drinking and obstructing an officer.

February 11
11:14 a.m.- Officers were called to a restaurant in reference to a male inside causing a disturbance. It was found the man had been rude and swearing at employees. Other patrons informed him his demeanor was rude and he then began yelling and swearing at others inside. The man denied the allegations, however several people had recorded his tirade on their cell phones. The man was arrested for disorderly conduct.

February 12
9:07 p.m.- Officers responded to a threat complaint. The caller stated his roommate had threatened to kill him because he had been sick all day. Contact was made with both parties and the male suspect was found to have been drinking in violation of his probation rules. The male was arrested for a probation violation.

February 13
10:14 a.m.- Officers were requested by Probation and Parole to take a female subject into custody for a probation violation. The female was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
11:10 a.m.- An officer assisted the Wisconsin Department of Corrections with a home visit. Probation agents located some drug items which were turned over to the officer. The male subject will be cited for the violations.
6:53 p.m.- An officer responded to a business for a shoplifting complaint that had taken place a couple of days earlier. Video was obtained of the suspects and the investigation is ongoing.

February 14
1:02 a.m.- A caller reported her estranged husband was banging on her door wanting to enter the residence. The husband currently has open bonds through Lincoln County Court that prohibit contact with the caller. The man was taken into custody for two counts of bail jumping.
11:05 a.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of Probation & Parole.

February 15
8:42 a.m.- A caller reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle sometime and stole an item from within.
12:22 p.m.- A pharmacy reported a female had attempted to fill a prescription for another person. It was found the prescription was fraudulent. Investigation is ongoing.
6:17 p.m.- An owner of a property requested the K9 unit conduct a drug sniff at a residence she had rented to a known drug user. She and the current tenant were concerned the previous tenant had possibly left behind drugs and/or paraphernalia. K9 Eros alerted to an area in the residence. A small container was located which contained trace amounts of methamphetamine.

February 16
4:20 p.m.- Officers responded to a domestic complaint. The caller stated his girlfriend had kicked him and scratched his face. Officers spoke with both parties involved and the female suspect was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct.

February 17
4:18 p.m.- Officers were dispatched to a fight. A male party was attempting to pull another person out of a vehicle during the fight. The vehicles left the scene and one of them was located and a traffic stop was conducted. During the investigation of the call and the traffic stop, the male driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated with a passenger under the age of 16 and was cited for operating without a valid driver’s license. A male passenger was arrested for a probation violation and another male passenger was arrested for obstructing after giving a false name and for bail jumping.

February 18
11:52 a.m.- An officer responded to a damage to property complaint. The caller advised they had a window broken out of their vehicle sometime over the weekend. Investigation is ongoing.
4:34 p.m.- Officers responded to a two vehicle crash on South Genesee Street. During the course of the investigation, one of the passengers was found to have a warrant through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The male was taken into custody for the warrant and a search incident to arrest resulted in officers locating prescription pills in his possession. The male was transported to the jail on the probation warrant as well as charges of possession of a narcotic drug.
