A cappella vocal quartet comes to Merrill

A cappella singing – without the aid of piano or other instruments – challenges the performer and delivers a pure sound experience to the audience. A British a cappella quintet described by BBC Radio 2 as producing “a stunning, beautiful sound” is on its way to Merrill.

The London-based vocal quintet Apollo5 will make one of the first stops on its first major United States tour on Saturday, March 3 at the Merrill High School Auditorium. The concert, which begins at 7 p.m., is sponsored by the Merrill Area Concert Association.

Apollo5 gives engaging and lively performances of a wide repertoire of classical, folk, jazz and pop music. Consisting of two sopranos plus a tenor, baritone and bass, the quintet uses a smooth blend of individual voices while singing everything a cappella – without any instrumental accompaniment.

While the group frequently sings in their home city of London, England, Apollo5’s five outstanding vocalists have performed across the UK and internationally, in Europe, Asia and now North America. They’re also committed to providing inspiring musical opportunities for young people through the charity Voces Cantabiles Music in the UK.

You’re welcome to enjoy Apollo5 by becoming a Merrill Area Concert Association member, as attendance is by membership only. Support MACA with a season membership and enjoy a great value as well; you’re in for all remaining 2017-18 MACA season concerts, as well as all of Antigo and Medford’s concert association performances.

While you can purchase a MACA membership on concert night, you can call in advance and catch every minute of entertainment. For more information, visit www.merrillconcerts.org, email [email protected] or contact Meagan at 715-252-6295.
