Ice fishing shanty to aid African children

The Mike Duginski ice fishing shanty made its debut to the public at the Merrill Christmas Parade, Dec. 2. It will be raffled off next year with proceeds targeted for building a school building in Kenya, Africa.

The building was under construction by Mike Duginski when he died suddenly on Jan. 5, 2017. His family generously donated it to the Knights of Columbus for completion and then to raffle it off at the annual K of C ice fishing tournament, that will be held on Feb. 10, 2018, on Lake Alexander near the Rock Island Resort.

The shanty sports propane heat and cherry wood paneling on its interior, maintenance free windows, hard composite siding and a metal roof on the exterior. Tickets are on sale now at the Rock Island Resort and at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church office.

Mike served the Knights of Columbus Fr. Rene Menard Council 1133 as Grand Knight from 2007 to 2010 and also from 2012 to 2015.
