The 2017 MHS Homecoming parade just recently concluded at Merrill High School. Kickoff for this year’s Homecoming clash with the Lakeland Union Thunderbirds is under an hour way at Jay Stadium.
The bout looks to be fairly evenly matched as the Bluejays come into the contest 2-3 and 1-1 in the Great Northern Conference. Merrill railroaded Mosinee 35-7 in their conference opener on Sep. 1 then fell by 16-12 upset at Ashland last week. The T-Birds rolled into town a short time ago with an equal 2-3 overall record and 1-2 in GNC play. The ‘Birds topped Medford in their conference opener via 22-21 shootout on Sep. 1, then fall in back to back losses to Antigo 48-8 and in last week’s contest with Mosinee 50-34. The winner of today’s contest will claim sole possession of 3rd place in the GNC.
